How often should I apply SPF?

So, you’ve nailed the final step in your AM skincare routine. You guessed it: it’s SPF.

But that might not be the only time you should apply during the day. There are times where you’ll need to reapply regularly throughout the day, as some things remove SPF faster.

Sweat after exercise and swimming also break down SPF on your skin, so you’re best to reapply afterwards. SPF also degrades over time, so it needs to be topped up.

The best way to know when to reapply? Check the UV index on your weather app. The higher the UV, the more often you should reapply. On particularly high UV days (which are pretty rare in the UK), it’s best to avoid peak sun hours in the middle of the day.

We’d suggest 12-4 on the highest UV days.

Read more about the UV index here.

On those higher UV days, we recommend that you reapply SPF every 2 hours to maximise sun protection – that should be all over your body, not just your face.

Don’t forget to cover often missed areas like the bridge of the nose, neck and eyelids, as well as your hands and feet.
