Why is cleansing important?

If you’ve got your daily skincare routine down to a fine art, you’ll know that the first (and most important) step is cleansing. Especially at night, when your skin has been exposed to impurities after a long day.

So, why is it so important?

Night-time is when the body regenerates – just as your internal organs go through repair processes (while you’re dreaming away), your skin (aka your biggest organ) needs time to regenerate too. If you have skincare (like SPF), makeup or dirt sitting on your skin overnight, this stops the process, blocks pores and can lead to spots, excess oil and sometimes irritation.

Not everyone needs to cleanse in the morning. Some more sensitive or dry skin types might not need it, but that evening cleanse is a must for all skin types. If you want to cleanse, you can rise with cold or lukewarm water.

Double cleanse to truly deep clean.

Why? The first cleanse melts away makeup, SPF and impurities. The second cleanse (the double) cleans deeper into your skin and pores to help remove excess oil and any residue of product.

Bothered by blocked pores and feeling like that double cleanse isn’t enough? Don’t over cleanse, stay consistent.

Over-cleansing can have the opposite effect, stripping the skin of its natural oils. The skin has a cycle that takes around a month, so it might not be instant, but be patient.
