What is vitamin C?

You’ve probably come across plenty of products in your favourite skincare shop that contain Vitamin C. Here’s everything you need to know.

The first question we ask is, is it suitable for teen skin?

No, it’s not. It has many benefits for more mature skin, which we’ll go into, but it’s too strong and acidic for delicate teen skin. Some forms of it are unstable, which can lead to irritation, reactions and it can actually worsen acne or blemishes, instead of help them.

It’s an ingredient that can be used in some products at a very high %, especially in anti-ageing products, which you don’t need and should avoid.

So, what is it?

It’s a pretty strong antioxidant in skincare that is used to brighten complexion, boost collagen (that keeps skin plump and bouncy), and protects skin from environmental damage. It also can help reduce dark spots, reduce fine lines, and evens out skin tone (which as a teen, you don’t need to be concerned about). Antioxidants in some forms are good for teen skin, but when it is at a high %, that’s where irritation can occur.

As you might have realised, teen skin is already bouncy with plenty of collagen and fine line free. So, you don’t actually need it!

When is the right age to use it?
When you reach your mid-20s, you can start introducing it in small amounts.
