How to layer skincare actives / ingredients

This is a top question from our teen community. As a general rule, you should layer product textures from lightest to heaviest. We would recommend that teens steer away from products that have specific hero ingredients.

Instead keep to gentle formulas that incorporate only the safe and suitable ingredients in one (like indu).

So, when you’re building your skincare routine, which products, do you start with, and what layers with what?

Our best, most simple skincare routine for teens is:

Cleanse + Moisturise + Protect (+ optional Boost)

We wouldn’t recommend using potent actives on their own, but rather choosing gentle, effective products that contain these actives in very small amounts. For example, salicylic acid is a great ingredient for breakouts – that’s why we’ve included it at low levels in our Spot On Paste.
The same goes for hyaluronic acid for boosting hydration – and you can find it in our Cleansing Pads and Universal Soft-Cream Moisturiser.

In terms of formulas, when in doubt, layer thinnest to thickest.
